From Oahu to the Big Island: How We Handle Dome Deliveries Across Hawaii.

Shipping a glamping dome to paradise sounds like a dream, but behind the scenes, it takes serious logistics to make it happen.

Hawaii is made up of 137 islands, with seven of them inhabited. The state’s major ocean cargo port is located in Honolulu, on the island of Oahu, and it’s where most freight from the mainland first arrives. What many people don’t realize is that most shipping companies only deliver to the main port, leaving the consignee (that’s the person or business receiving the shipment) responsible for arranging delivery to their final island destination. That can be a daunting task, especially when your dome tent kit arrives in crates up to 6 ft (1.8 m) long and weighing up to 800 lbs (360 kg).

We Make Remote Delivery Easy

At Glamping Dome Store, we’ve partnered with a trusted global logistics provider to ensure smooth, door-to-door delivery across the Hawaiian Islands, including the more remote areas. That means our customers don’t have to stress over coordinating transport from port to property. We take care of it.

Our latest Hawaii-based project is a great example.

A client on the Big Island recently ordered a custom dome tent setup featuring a 21.5 ft (9 m) dome connected to a 19.7 ft (6 m) dome via a tunnel. The cargo has already safely arrived at Honolulu port, where our team is currently handling customs clearance and has covered all import tariffs and fees at no extra cost to the customer.

Engineering Matters: The Deck and Dome Are a System

While the domes make their way to the Big Island, the customer is busy preparing the site, building a custom platform using our professionally developed deck guide.

This guide was created by a certified structural engineer and comes included with every dome tent kit purchase. It ensures the platform is properly designed to support the dome’s frame and anchoring system. Together, the dome structure, frame anchors, and engineered deck form a complete system that can withstand the snow and wind loads specified in our standard engineering report, which is also included in every purchase.

We’re proud to offer this level of support because proper installation isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about safety, longevity, and peace of mind.

Island Hopping, Dome Style

Once customs clearance is complete, our agent will coordinate the next step: transferring the cargo onto a smaller boat that will transport the domes from Oahu to the Big Island. Upon arrival, a local road carrier will receive the shipment, coordinate with the customer, and deliver the domes directly to their final destination.

It’s a complex journey—ocean freight, port handling, island transfer, and local delivery—but we’ve designed our process to make it feel seamless for our customers, no matter how remote the location.

Stay Tuned: This Build is One to Watch

We’re especially excited about this project because the customer is going all-in on a unique layout, and they’ve been kind enough to share photos along the way. We’ll be featuring images of the deck construction, platform work, and eventually, the connected dome layout once it’s fully installed.

More updates to come, and we can’t wait to show you the final result.
